I loved No Country For Old Men, but I keep coming back to Tommy Lee Jones in The Valley of Elah:
That’s how you fight monsters. You lure ‘em in close to you. You look ‘em in the eye. You smack ‘em down.
No Country For Old Men is a superior film, but there’s something very powerful going on in Elah and if you want a real double bill of pessimism try watching the two back to back.
I haven’t had as much fun since I first saw Electra Glide in Blue.
And Charlize Theron in that scene above… man.
